For those who might not undertake at Facebook much anymore, MSSA President Gary Marbut again sums it up well in a “Facebook Page Post. AND VOTE YES ON LR-130 In November!!

And for those struggling with the screenshot above, pasted as text from Facebook below…

UPDATED 1/14/2020. Please Share

Here is the LR 130 Handout and Information for your use. If you want to know more about LR 130, please read all the way through to the bottom. Any other questions or concerns, please contact us and we’ll address those for you.

Some people have been asking for a handout for LR-130 that they can print locally and distribute to friends, or at gun stores, gun shows, shooting ranges, and more. A .pdf file of such a handout is available for your use from this link.

http://progunleaders.org/LR-130/

You can take this file (printed or electronic) to your local copy shop or printer and ask them to print this two-sided piece on “Astrobright Terra Green Cover” (a bright, lime green, heavy paper) and cut the result into six pocket-sized handouts for each 8.5″X 11″ sheet. You should be able to get 100 sheets printed and cut (into 600 pieces) for about $50. If you wish to pay for printing of 25 sheets, 50 sheets, or 200 sheets, that’s up to you.

This is important! Pay for this with your own (personal) money, not the money of some organization such as a local gun club, or a business. If your gun club or business pays for this, it could be required to form a “political committee”, file a bunch of paperwork with the Montana Commissioner of Political Practices, and report all sources of income (gun club members?) However, if you do this with your personal funds, and unless you spend $250 or more, it is a freedom of speech exercise. No reporting required.

Help freedom, preserve the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, help Montana gun owners, and help MSSA by getting these handouts spread to voters all over Montana.

Explaining LR-130, and why it’s important to Montana

Some Montana gun owners have asked me where they can actually read LR-130, the November ballot issue to protect our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

I’ll provide a link below to where you can read LR-130 for yourself. But first let me explain what LR-130 does and how to read it.

LR-130 is the result of House Bill 357 having been passed by the 2019 Legislature. HB 357 sets a ballot measure to amend two relevant and existing state laws. When an existing law is amended, language may be added to the law (shown as underlined words), or it can delete language from the law (shown as strikethrough words).

Two current state laws limit cities’ and counties’ authority to regulate firearms, but they are not enough limitation. One law, 7-1-111(9), M.C.A., prohibits local governments from using “any power that applies to or affects the right to keep or bear arms.” BUT, it goes on to say, “‘except that a local government has the power to regulate the carrying of concealed weapons.” LR-130 will remove this “except” clause from the law.

The other law to be amended by LR-130 is 45-8-351, M.C.A. This law generally prohibits local gun control, BUT says that for “public safety purposes” a local government may adopt and enforce gun control measures in several ways. LR-130 will dramatically shorten this list of allowed exceptions. The net effect is that local governments will still be allowed to regulate unpermitted concealed weapons (people carrying concealed illegally inside city limits) and open carry into buildings owned and occupied by governmental entities.

That’s it. If LR-130 is successful, local governments will no longer have alleged loopholes to exploit as Missoula tried with its universal background check ordinance and various “gun free zones” concerning “parks” and “public assemblies.”

Knowing this much, you are now equipped to read LR-130 at:

https://sosmt.gov/wp-content/uploads/LR-130.pdf

Some local governments and anti-gun political entities in Montana will likely mount a campaign against LR-130. They may be joined by New York City billionaire Michael Bloomberg and his surrogate entities such as Demanding Moms and Illegal Mayors for Guns. In this opposition, these opponents will almost certainly make up major and scary lies about the effects of LR-130, trying to stampede low-information voters away from LR-130. One predictable lie (they’ve already floated this one) is that LR-130 will permit crazy people to go into schools and kill innocent children. Scary, huh? But, it’s a lie. There is a different, existing law (45-8-361, M.C.A.) that prohibits guns in schools, a law that will not be affected by LR-130. Even though it falls under the general “save the children” category of political argument, this lie is still stupid. How low must be the IQ of someone who believes that bad people who will ignore laws against murder will be aware of and be deterred from their intended mayhem by an obscure city ordinance.

Although the Montana Constitution has a very strong reservation of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, that reservation is useless if any city or county may concoct and enforce local gun control, creating a patchwork of gun control across the state just waiting to entrap an unwary traveler.

Thus, 7-1-111 and 45-8-351, as updated by LR-130, are the actual implementation of the RKBA in the Montana Constitution. That’s why LR-130 is so important.

Please explain LR-130 to all your friends and neighbors, at your local gun club, to the staff at local gun stores, and anywhere else you can. LR-130 MUST PASS in November.

Join Montana Gun Auctions & Raffles Group To Hold FREE Gun, Ammo & Gear Auctions & Raffles!

MSSA contacted me asking about the ability to do fundraising auctions for items donated to the Montana Shooting Sports Association.

As we don’t have anything well established yet, I had to turn him down and suggest he use groups or classifieds. I hate doing things like that! I have created a new group titled Montana Gun Auctions & Raffles at https://montanaguntrader.com/groups/?auctions-raffles/ – It however will be useless if we don’t get people to join to get notifications and bid/engage. I am honestly not a huge auction fan. But they do work good for fundraising and for dealer raffles which can be fun. We do need to figure out how to set proper bidding rules, etc. I will leave those parts up to you for now until we set some standards. 98% of Voters in Poll Think Montana Should Support Unlimited Eradication Hunting of Feral Hogs

In an active current poll, 98% of voters believe that the State of Montana should allow unlimited eradication hunting to help reduce threats posed to Montana by what will soon be an complete invasion of feral hogs beginning on our Northern border from Canada. Our southern state neighbors might agree that if we don’t start soon, these beasts will plow up every garden and potato field in the county.

A new bacon hunting opportunity we should embrace which gives us an excuse to buy more ammo, AR-15’s and other “assault weapons” or a hindrance we should eradicate? Is it possible to manage these beasts or is it too late? Take the poll and comments below.

How do YOU keep from being spammed and scammed while buying, selling and trading online?

What is your first clue when an online classified ad does NOT look legitimate?

One of the biggest reason social network marketplaces have become much more popular is because of the relative safety of being able to profile people somewhat before even contacting them. Many of us have been scammed and probably all of us have been spammed after emailing someone through contact forms online and in ads.

Very rarely does it happen here because only members can post ads and membership is approved by a local admin. But it does happen a lot on sites like Craigslist. There are things most of us do to avoid getting scammed.

“I once engaged in a conversation with some friends about how many digits it takes to express the number of rounds of ammo a person ought to have in storage. The serious debate on that question ended up being between five and six digits. Nobody I know can afford seven, and nobody I know is foolish or optimistic enough to suggest or depend on four.”

What considerations and precautions do YOU always take before contacting someone who posted an ad?

Aside from the firearm research on the item itself, for safety and legality purposes, what steps do YOU always take before even contacting someone who posts a gun classified ad?

Those of us who have done this forever always employ a few common sense considerations before even contacting someone with an item we might be interested in, regardless of whether they are a member or not. These might apply to anywhere else ads are posted as well.

This is one good part about a social media style site. Instead of just an obfuscated email from sites like Craigslist, at social media marketplace sites like this, you can check the directory and profile your buyers or seller first before even contacting them. You could even go so far before even contacting them to run a free Montana background check using the CONWEB if you wanted to and then just verify it’s them before transacting.

Please find and leave your comments, tips, tricks and suggestions for other members and visitors in the comments below.

Montana supporters of Universal Background Checks may not know that we can already do it ourselves free!

Mandated or “Universal” Government Background Checks for private gun sales and trade, ARE NOT and will never be, to the best of our ability, REQUIRED BY LAW in the State of Montana!

Unless of course you live in Missoula now. Missoula is trying to require background checks before firearms transactions within city limits. Anyone with any common sense knows that even if they do, law abiding citizens will simply drive outside of the city limits to transact. As opposed to the bad guys, who don’t care either way.

Like a majority of attempts at gun control, just ridiculous.

Does that mean we don’t think people should have the choice to do a background check on someone for our own firearm transactions? Should we have to pay for it? Well you don’t currently have to pay for an in state ONLY background check in Montana!

Montanans already have a resource available to perform in state background checks using the Montana Correctional Offender CONWEB.

Governor Bullock Vetoes Missoula Ordinance Fix: HB325 – Now It’s Up To Montana Voters in 2020!

I don’t normally like to get political at this site. However, Bullock’s veto of this bill directly affects private gun sales and trades in Missoula due to their ordinance, and any other whimsical gun control measures cities may choose to adopt in Montana. Please see details provided by Gary From Montana Shootings Sports Association below and get ready to rally the troops in 2020…

I will provide followup for members in the comments below. Leave a comment to get notifications here in order to stay tuned in.

MSSA on Facebook: Dear MSSA Friends,

Yesterday (Friday, 5/3/19), Governor Bullock vetoed HB 325, the bill to prevent a patchwork of gun control laws across the state. The bill’s identical companion, HB 357 will cause the same thing to go to a vote of the people at the next General Election, in November of 2020.

It’s no surprise that the Governor was highly disingenuous in his veto message giving his reason for this veto. For example, he says HB 325 would allow felons to bring guns into schools, even though it’s illegal under federal law for felons to possess guns. (Yes, Bullock is reputed to have graduated from law school.)

So, Bullock is effectively arguing that a felon who would disregard committing another federal felony and disregard a state law prohibiting guns in schools (45-8-361), would be deterred from bringing guns into schools if only local governments are allowed to enact an ordinance for a local misdemeanor prohibiting that conduct. Right, as if felons spend their time first reading and then complying with local ordinances. Right, nonsensical.

There is much else nonsensical about the Governor’s veto message. In a separate effort, I’ll dissect and correct it in detail.

However, this veto message clearly telegraphs the exact lies opponents will make about HB 357 in the run-up to the 2020 election. Opponents will say, in various ways, that HB 357 will cause the end-of-life-on-Earth-as-we-know-it if voters vote for HB 357. They will lie repeatedly.

You and I will be fully responsible for explaining HB 357 to uninformed voters. Yes, that will be your job and the job of every one of your pro-gun friends. This will happen in a thousand one-on-one conversations you will have with other Montana voters between now and November of 2020. Anti-gun New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg and his minions will probably spend a lot of money in Montana propagating the same lies about HB 357 that Bullock used in his veto message of HB 325. Only you will be able to convince your friends and neighbors to vote for HB 357. I can’t do that for you, nor can MSSA, the NRA, or anyone else. Only you. Get ready.

So, I recommend that you begin to prepare by reading Bullock’s veto message at:

https://leg.mt.gov/bills/2019/AmdHtmH/HB0325GovVeto.pdf

Again, I will prepare a detailed rebuttal of this veto message for your use, and get that to you soon.
