Original WWII Thompson M1928A1, manufactured in 1941, by Savage Arms. The upper and lower are non-matching but both are Savage Arms and in the same serial number block for 1941. This was not uncommon for battlefield guns as parts got mismatched in field. This machine gun is inert and 100% legal to own without a tax stamp. Unlike other display Thompsons built from parts kits on a newly made receiver, this Thompson is on its “original” receiver, which was carefully torch cut to ATF spec keeping all markings intact, then re-welded into a “new” compliant dummy display receiver. Everything is live and functional (including the barrel) except for the bolt/receiver which are welded into a single piece with the bolt face and extractor removed and replaced with a 2” steel rod resembling the bolt that was welded through the ejection port. This is one of the nicest and most complete inert Thompsons I’ve ever seen. Aside from the added 2” of modern steel this gun is 99% original WWII including the buttstock oiler and the sling. The WWII captains bars and the US issue compass pictured are included.
(I also have an MP40 listed, I’d sell both the Thompson and the MP40 together for $10k or I would trade both for an FNH M249S).
Price is firm, transaction will take place at my local bank branch in Billings. I also have a very nice WWII German MP40 listed. A functional, pre-86 transferable WWII or earlier Thompson M1928 would run you anywhere from $60k-$100k. If you want an original historic Thompson that saw action, this is by far the most affordable option.
