If only that would happen. We are approaching the point where they are no longer hiding what they are doing. That means we are also reaching the point where the uniparty will take complete control and tell you to like it or else. This will be the "new" normal.

TARGETED = specific items, perhaps from specific countries

TACTICAL = not a separate category. Simply an adverb to describe the manner in which action is considered and taken, so as to provide the best outcome from the least amount of pain/loss/damage

Well then ALL tariffs can be argued to be "tactical", because they're all designed to provide the "best outcome" for their proponents, in their opinion (regardless of whetheer their opinion is wrong or right). Targeted, if we accept your definition, which I suppose is ok, is still a horrible idea. Take one of many examples the fact that a century-plus old law on the federal books prevents US-based transportation providers from buying ships built overseas. This is why so many unsubsidized places that need ferries don't have them - the USA builds only inferior, overpriced ships. It was targeted, and still has bad outcomes (for Americans) that far outweigh the good. I guess I could see it if the imported product was made by violating our country's IP laws - but that's not what Trump's proposing. Tariffs are marxist / socialist. The horrible cars built by the USA in the 70s and 80s, with Jap cars putting them to shame and FORCING them to improve their products proves the point. Had there been restrictive tariffs, USA vehicles would still be like the ultimate POS '78 Chevy I had, and the industry would be DEAD. Competition and free markets help everyone, always, regardless of whether domestic or international.
