The first issue is that the ballistics are very different between the two rounds, and the second is the sabot itself. When you get a clean separation, the bullet flies true and hits where you were aiming. But about half the time the sabot doesn't separate cleanly. This kicks the back of bullet, causing a wobble that gives you a wicked flyer. Yes, I tested this with the rifle clamped in a rest with a remote trigger to eliminate the variables of my humanity.
I did end up finding a use for them as practice rounds for kids to let them step up to a larger rifle and caliber than they had been using because the recoil is much lower than a normal round. That was about the only good use for them I ever found. Maybe once I have time I'll try making some with a 3D printer to get a better design with more consistent separation.
