4 mm pinfire Ring Gun The Five Aces This is an antique five shot 4 mm pinfire, “THE FIVE ACES”, ring gun, by an unknown maker, probably made in France or Belgium in the 1860’s to 1880’s. The ring looks to be silver, but shows no hallmarks. The back side of the ring engraved “THE FIVE ACES” along with some vine & leaf engraving. The balance of the parts are fire blued steel. The interior of the ring measures .814. The cylinder measures .443 tall X .595 in diameter. Complete with the original case, & a small screwdriver for removing the cylinder for loading. The hinged top case is brown pebble grain leather on the outside. The interior bottom French fit and covered in a dark green velour. The interior top is padded and covered in a cream colored silk. This ring gun has an unusual feature which is the addition of a hammer spur. I suspect the hammer may have been made that way to increase the mass of the hammer, making for a more powerful strike to the firing pin. The cylinder is manually indexed, with a spring cylinder stop to align the chamber, & firing pin, to the hammer. There is a knurled ring at the top of the cylinder sides to aid in grasping the cylinder to rotate it. Near mint condition showing only very minor blue wear to the sharp edges. The case is excellent showing only minor wear to the edges and corners.
