We have driven it through legislature twice before only to be vetoed twice by former governors like Steve Bullock. Gianforte will sign it. Tonights "deadline" doesn't really maen jackshit... especially in Montana. The DOJ has 60 days from the entry of the final judgment (August 5, 2026) to file a Notice of Appeal. This deadline expires in early October 2026, not tonight...

The maximum extension they could get, even if the DOJ requests an extension due to "excusable neglect" or "good cause," under the law (Federal Rule of Appellate Procedure 4) limits this extension to no more than 30 additional days past the original deadline.

Once this 90-day total window closes, the right to appeal is finally permanently forfeited. There is no legal mechanism to reopen the appeal process after that for a standard judgment like this.
So nothing is finished, not even close...

Nothing finished, but my understanding per various publications by GOA, Silencershop seem to put plaintiffs (i.e. members of the GOA or various organizations) in a place where you can buy a suppressor with a 4473. There does not seem to be anything stopping private sale of suppressors starting tomorrow between people who qualify (like GOA members).

Except that Montana law states that possessing an unregistered silencer serves as evidence of an unlawful purpose, meaning federal registration is explicitly tied to state-level legality.
The AG says he is going to address this with a letter of "unenforcability" but I don't believe for a single moment that the hired municipal thug class will abide...plus the Montana gang of Supremes will never let that stand unless they are forced to do so.
