They need to think small, compact, easily hardend, extremely flexible and mobile. A mini scale solution, "something like an AI guided bottle rocket approach" or a Metal Storm grenade launcher module with hardened AI targeting systems.
Mostly important is inexpensive! This is the reality of warfare now. Cheap drones can swarm, overwhelm, and quickly destroy expensive gear. You're just burning piles of money, and troops.
